laying hulk

Event Description:

Saturday 8 April 2017

This full-day meeting is our second visit to record lichens in the parkland, lake margins and woods of the National Trust's Hardwick Estate. On this outing we plan to study the area on the east side of the Great Lake, opposite to the side we looked at on the last visit.

Meet at 10.30am at the Hardwick Park Centre car park - grid ref SK453640. The car park has toilets and is pay and display (£3.00 for the day - free for NT members).

See Streetmap for a map of the location: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=445350&Y=364050&A=Y&Z=115

Directions from A617 / M1 junction (Junction 29 of the M1): take the A6175 towards Heath. After 500m take the first road on the left (signed 'Stainsby' and with a brown sign to 'Hardwick Hall'). Follow this road, without turning off, for 3km. Note: after 1.5km on this road ignore the brown-signed left turn to 'Hardwick Hall' and carry straight on. After going under the motorway turn immediately left into the Hardwick Park car park. If you reach the Hardwick Inn you have gone 1km too far.

If anyone has transport difficulties from Sheffield, Joan Egan may be able to assist, please contact her on 0114 236 5002.

As usual people with all levels of experience are welcome. Strong footwear and waterproof clothing are recommended. Bring a hand-lens, lunch and drinks.
