BLS Resources

This section includes various useful resources.

There are pages on Publications and  Items for Sale, with details of how to order them, and a page on the BLS Library from which books and other published and non-published items can be borrowed.

The Downloads page includes recording cards and spreadsheets, information on the taxa and records in the BLS database, corrections to the "Flora" and other useful items.

The page on Herbaria explains the different types of specimens held and lists the main herbaria in Britain and Ireland. The BLS has its own collection from which specimens are lent out, a valuable resource for beginners.

The Taxon Dictionary is a searchable database of lichen names, old and new, which links synonyms to their modern equivalents and also includes the latest conservation statuses.

The Species and Maps sections includes distribution maps for all British species of lichens and lichenicolous fungi, produced from the BLS database. For a few species there are also photos and information on identification and ecology, and we hope to extend this in time.

The Learning Zone offers ideas for lichen-related projects for both school and university-level students and their teachers.

Useful Links provides links to other websites that may be useful. The BLS can take no responsibility for the content of these sites!
