The British Lichen Society is a Registered Charity (number 228850) open to all who are interested in increasing knowledge of lichens. The BLS Council steers the work of the Society and committees coordinate aspects of its work: Conservation, Data, Education and Promotions, Finance, and Members' Services. Additionally, from time to time specific working groups are formed.
The Constitution and policy statements provide the legal framework within which the Society operates. The Society is now considering changing its status to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), a change that would allow us to work more effectively to meet our objectives, and that will mean adopting a new Constitution and Standing Orders. Although the structure of these documents is rather different to what we have had before, much of the content is very similar. The proposed documents can be downloaded from the Constitution page.
