General Description

A rare boreal Micarea of hard conifer wood by water, typically logs fallen into in acid streams. With a white to pale grey thallus, with apothecia adnate, convex, grey-black, but pallid, reddish brown or brown-grey in shade morphs, 0.15-0.46 mm diam, hypothecium dark reddish brown, spores simple 9-12 × 4-5 μm. Recorded from a stump splashed with water in a native pine wood in Deeside.
